We Only Have to Wait Four More Months for Shadow and Bone

At last, we have a release date for Netflix’s Shadow and Bone! Or at least a release month: the adaptation of Leigh Bardugo’s books will make its epic debut in April.

Netflix shared the news with an atmospheric, tantalizing, and infuriatingly brief teaser showing the magical Morozova’s Stag.

Shadow and Bone takes its name from Bardugo’s first trilogy, but the series also pulls from her Six of Crows duology. In a brief Q&A, Bardugo and showrunner Eric Heisserer discussed—vaguely, and without the slightest hint of a spoiler—how they’ve brought together characters from two different timelines.

Bardugo and Heisserer also talked at this year’s New York Comic Con; watch them discuss casting, the coolest props, and the show’s score here.

Shadow and Bone stars Ben Barnes as General Kirigan/The Darkling, Jessie Mei Li as Alina Starkov, Archie Renaux as Malyen Oretsev, Amita Suman as Inej, Kit Young as Jesper Fahey, and Freddy Carter as Kaz Brekker. Last year, Deadline shared an early synopsis of the first season:

In a world cleaved in two by a massive barrier of perpetual darkness, where unnatural creatures feast on human flesh, a young soldier uncovers a power that might finally unite her country. But as she struggles to hone her power, dangerous forces plot against her. Thugs, thieves, assassins and saints are at war now, and it will take more than magic to survive.
