What if you could find out your life’s potential for two dollars in quarters? That’s the premise of The Big Door Prize, a show from Schitt’s Creek writer David West Read and adapted from the eponymous novel by M.O. Walsh.

During the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour, Apple TV+ released a teaser of the show, which shows a blue-glowing machine, with the word “MORPHO” emblazoned on the front, that apparently spits out cards listing a person’s life potential. I imagine things go how you might expect, and while the show is a character-centered comedy (each episode is about 30 minutes long), it also has some eerie “there’s some kind of magic going on here” vibes.

Here’s the show’s official synopsis:

Based on M.O. Walsh’s novel of the same name, The Big Door Prize tells the story of a small town that is forever changed when a mysterious machine appears in the general store, promising to reveal each resident’s true life potential.

The Big Door Prize stars Chris O’Dowd, Gabrielle Dennis, Ally Maki, Josh Segarra, Damon Gupton, Crystal Fox, Sammy Fourlas, and Djouliet Amara. It’s produced by Skydance Television and CJ ENM/Studio Dragon. Read serves as showrunner and executive producer, with David Ellison and Dana Goldberg serving as executive producers for Skydance Television. Miky Lee, Young Kyu Kim, and Hyun Park executive produce for CJ ENM/Studio Dragon, along with Bill Bost and Sarah Walker.

The 10-episode first season of The Big Door Prize premieres on Apple TV+ sometime this spring.
