The adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s Children of Blood and Bone is steadily moving toward production. After the project stalled at Lucasfilm, Paramount bought the rights back in January 2022, bringing director Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Woman King, The Old Guard) on board, who also co-wrote the script with Adeyemi.

Earlier this year, we learned who would be starring in the film—Thuso Mbedu (The Woman King), Amandla Stenberg (The Acolyte), Damson Idris (Snowfall), and Tosin Cole (Doctor Who)—and thanks to Deadline, we now know eight more names on the call sheet: Saniyya Sidney (Fences), Zackary Momoh (Harriet, Doctor Sleep), Richard Mofe-Damijo (Namaste Wahala), Ayra Starr, Pamilerin Ayodeji (Mikolo), Shamz Garuba (Crime and Justice Lagos), Kola Bodunde (Shadow), and Temi Fagbenle.

Some of these names are relative newcomers—Ayodeji and Garuba were found through an open casting call in Nigeria—while others like Momoh (pictured above) have appeared in prominent films like Harriet and Doctor Sleep.

A number of A-listers have also taken on roles, including Viola Davis as Mama Agba, Cynthia Erivo as Admiral Kaea, Idris Elba as Lekan, Lashana Lynch as Jumoke, Chiwetel Ejiofor as King Saran, Regina King as Queen Nehanda, Diaana Babnicova as Folake, and Bukky Bakray as Binta.

Children of Blood and Bone is set to premiere in theaters on January 15, 2027. [end-mark]
