Forgotten Island: DreamWorks Animation’s Next Film is Based on Philippine Mythology

DreamWorks Animation, the studio behind features like Puss in Boots, How to Train Your Dragon, and four Kung Fu Panda films, has just revealed its latest project.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the newly announced feature is titled Forgotten Island and is described as “a broad party comedy adventure that transports the film’s protagonists to a long forgotten, magical island rooted in Philippine mythology.” What the story entails beyond that is unknown, including what characters we’ll be centered on.

Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado are serving as directors and writers for the project. Mark Swift, who worked with Crawford and Mercado on the critically and commercially acclaimed Puss in Boots sequel, Puss in the Boots: The Last Wish, is producing.

We don’t know much more about Forgotten Island, though DreamWorks Animation has had a slate of successful runs lately, from the incredible The Wild Robot, to the commercially successful feature The Bad Guys. They’re also involved in the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon and—if my four-year-old is a barometer for these things—the soon-to-be incredibly lucrative Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie, which is set to come out this fall.

Forgotten Island is currently slated to premiere in theaters on September 25, 2026. [end-mark]
